So you've recently moved from a beautifully redone apartment that you rented to a not-so-beautiful home that you own (or at least your significant other does)! How very exciting- you can do whatever you want to this home and there is no landlord to yell at you!!! So you throw a coat of paint onto the living room walls and its now cozy. However, the kitchen is a different story! Fear not, if we break it down piece by piece you can go from a scuzzy scullery to a couture cookery in no time! Let's start with the cupboards.
Worn-out and scuffed cupboards can really make a room look drab. A little sanding and a little staining can make your cupboards look bright and new!
This stain is really great and I recommend using it! Minwax® PolyShades® combines beautiful oil based wood stain and polyurethane in one simple step. Minwax® PolyShades® provides rich wood color and long lasting protection while enhancing the wood grain. PolyShades® will reduce finishing time compared with staining with one product and protecting with another. (http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/onestep-stain-finishes/minwax-polyshades) All you need to do is clean and lightly sand the cupboard (you don't need to strip off the old stain at all!). Apply a layer of the PolyShades and let it dry and your cupboard looks as good as new!
My cupboards before...
...and my cupboards after!
I did go to Lowe's and buy new handles for the cupboards. However, it would have been really expensive to buy new hinges for all of the cupboards so I ended up taking all the hinges off the cupboards and spray painting them with a metallic (gold) spray paint. It did the trick and every one thought that I had bought new hinges too!
Undomestically Yours, Leah
